INCLUSIVE TANDEM CYCLING EXPEDITION—MANALI 2 KHARDUNGLA

“Life is beautiful, no matter what” Having lost an arm at the age of 5 and a foot drop at the age of 27 to cancer did not deter me from leading a life full of adventure and experiments. I have donned various hats; from being a waiter to a poet. I stumbled upon my career into movie/assistant director and I am the founder of “Secret Locators”.

I am also a sports buff and coming this August, I am going to participate in India’s only inclusive tandem cycling expedition from Manali to Khardung La (M2K2018), the highest motor able road in the world. This expedition is organized by Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF).

What is ABBF?

Adventure Beyond Barriers Foundations

ABBF is a not for profit organization that promotes inclusivity. Through adaptive adventure and sports activities, it provides opportunities for people (with and without disability) to come together and experience the adrenaline and camaraderie that only sports has to offer. By spending time outdoors together,
ABBF hopes to achieve –

1. Awareness that the spirit of adventure is not impeded by disability

2. warding off common misconceptions about disability that stem from ignorance and feed popular social stereotypes,

3. A more empathetic and inclusive society

M2K2018 is ABBF’s annual fund raising event. I have joined hands with them to help them raise Rs. 400000. I believe we together can make a change. Be that enabler to make this world a better place. With the donations received the organization will be able to provide equal and inclusive outdoor adventure sports spaces for Persons with Disability who are also marginalized because of poor socio-economic background.

Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) is endeavouring to take cyclists with and without disability on an inclusive tandem-cycling expedition from Manali to Khardung La---the highest motorable road in the world. Last year, we took to the mountains with nine cyclists with disability and 23 able-bodied riders. All our participants completed the expedition and stood proud on top of the world at 18,380 feet. Our accomplishment made history too (see our media coverage here and our last year's funding campaign here) and this year, we are all set to do it again with your support.

About M2K2018: From August 18--30, ABBF is all set to push even higher boundaries than last year by taking a team of 25 people, with and without disability, on a cycling expedition from Manali to Khardung-La in Ladakh. During these 11 days, cyclists will push the limits of physical endurance and mental fortitude, forge relationships and build empathy. At its core, #M2K2018 is the chance for people to discover new perspectives, while simultaneously spreading the message of inclusion and accessibility. Everyone wins. Everyone goes home stronger. Everyone gets to live harder.

How will we use your donations for #M2K2018: Your donations will help us provide for all our cyclists' accommodations, food, living expenses, costs of maintaining the tandem cycles, support vehicles and medical necessities, as well as the expenditure of our practice sessions throughout the months leading up to the event. Your funds will also fund our cyclists with disability who are from poor economic backgrounds, while helping us raise money for our future events this year.
